I’d built a business from the ground up. I’d dealt with having no money in the bank in my younger years. Before that, I had a rough childhood where I went through all kinds of trauma.

“I just have one complaint,” I said.

Her expression changed again, going back to the relaxed, happy Ashland that I knew and loved.

Yes, loved. I’d just thought the “L” word, and I would be saying it out loud soon enough. I would fall in love with this woman. I was already on my way there.
